Cervia is Nature, Cervia is Culture

NATURE

Cervia is completely surrounded by greenery. Nature lover should visit the Butterfly House, the pine woods as well as the local salt marshes, a true wealth of plant and animal life. These salt waters constiute a local nature reserve, as well as the southernmost edge of the Po Delta Region Park: they are home to a variety of water birds and are a favourite stop-over for migratory birds such as flamingos, spoonbills, white herons, cranes and stalks (check out our special "Birdwatching").

CULTURE
Cervia NatureCervia, which was originally founded among the salt marshes a few kilometres from the present site, was rebuilt at the end of the 17th century. The town centre is rectangular-shaped, and is protected by the buildings that form a definsive wall around the town. For centuries the town's inhabitants lived from the production and sale of salt, that can be seen from the interesting examples of industrial archaeology such as the massive warehouses and the Tower of St. Michele that looms over the town. Cervia lies just a short distance from two world-famous artistic towns: Ravenna, a treasure-chest of Byzantine art and architecture, and Faenza, home of the famous ceramics. It is also situated just a few kilometres from the hill towns of Brisighella, Bertinoro, San Leo and the tiny Republic of San Marino (check out our special "Art & Culture").
